Advancements in European Aerial Warship Design: Russia vs. Austria-Hungary

Brigade Models are continuing their deep dive into the evolving European aerial warship landscape, focusing on the two dominant Eastern European powers: Austria-Hungary and Russia. Both nations are rapidly expanding their formidable air fleets, incorporating cutting-edge technology and design improvements.

Russia’s Evstafi-Class Dreadnoughts: Power & Innovation

Following setbacks in the Far East against Japan, Russia has been investing heavily in modernizing its battleship squadrons. One key result is the introduction of the Evstafi-class dreadnoughts, which offer:

  • Enhanced secondary armament in fully rotating turrets, a major upgrade from previous casemate-mounted weapons
  • Aircraft catapults for improved reconnaissance and communications
  • Extended hulls to accommodate a maintenance workshop for aerial operations

Currently, most Evstafi-class ships are deployed in the Far East or retained in Russia’s home fleets, with none yet assigned to the southern front.

Austria-Hungary’s Vielfrass-Class Dreadnoughts: Speed & Firepower

Meanwhile, Austria-Hungary has introduced the Vielfrass (Wolverine) class—a bold departure from traditional capital ship designs. These new dreadnoughts feature:

  • Arrowhead hull profile, allowing all primary weapons to fire forward for devastating frontal assaults
  • Separated steering vanes & high-powered engines for superior maneuverability

As these two aerial juggernauts continue to develop their fleets, the inevitable clash between Russian and Austrian forces looms ever closer. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of European aerial warfare!
